Constant BOTY (b. May 21st. 1979) is a Guitarist, Singer,
Percussionist, Songwriter, Composer and Music Critic from the
Republic of Cote d’Ivoire. He is known for his folksy and
impressive African finger style on guitar which is a typical of
the dance floor friendly “Zouglou” music hat is common in the
Republic of Cote d’Ivoire.
BOTY has been Singing, playing the Percussion & Guitar since the
age of 5. His earliest influences was his uncle, Henri GOBI, as
class Singer, Dancer and Percussionist who has performed with
the national ballet of Cote d’Ivoire and most of the Guro
communities all around Cote d’Ivoire. Mr. Henri GAOBI was truly
an influence for his philosophy and percussion techniques which
till today remain the best African percussionist, singer and
dancer in the World.
Constant BOTY began his professional career at the age of 19, at
the “Arts Teaching School” (Lycée d’Enseignements Artistiques)
For general musical training before he was successfully admitted
to attend the “National Institute of Art” which opened the door
to perform with many great local artists such as West African
Arranger Adou PASCAL, Jam during a Jazz master class with Mr.
Paco Seri the legendary Jazz fusion drummer of Joe Zawinul,
Great Blues guitarist Desire Gadau.
A few years later he became a regular member of prestigious
Crystal Night Club’s Jazz band as a guitarist and backing vocals
also, he was touring Jamming in most of Abidjan Jazz clubs which
led him to jam with Great Norman Brown, Jonathan Buttler while
they tour in Abidjan…. One of his great opportunity in his
professional career began was to Jam with French Born Singer
Jean-Jacques Goldman for the opening of the 6th Anniversary of
Radio Nostalgie in Abidjan.
Over the years his style has diversified, including Blues,
Fusion bands and Studio recording session on numerous “Zouglou”
music releases (Nemco, Les Cfaou etc ...) and Radio jingles for
advertising music.
Now age 29, his other extensive credits already include working
with his great influence Mr. Henri Gaobi during December
2007; great musicologist Dr. Hien Sie for his researches on
African music and instruments especially Northern Cote d’Ivoire
music ….Performing as guitarist and percussionist for the renown
West African Arranger Mr. Adou Pascal at his studio Heaven’s
Sound Production
